At Prima’s Choice Africa, we are committed to promoting the dignity, safety, health, and economic wellbeing of young adults, sex workers, and other marginalized communities. Through community-led, rights-based, and inclusive approaches, we respond to the immediate needs of vulnerable individuals while creating opportunities for long-term empowerment, resilience, and social inclusion.

Human Rights Advocacy and Protection

We promote and protect the human rights of young adults through advocacy, awareness raising, community mobilization, and engagement with key stakeholders. Our work focuses on addressing discrimination, stigma, violence, and exclusion while promoting equality, inclusion, and respect for human rights. We work alongside communities, civil society organizations, and other partners to strengthen protection mechanisms, amplify community voices, and contribute to a more just and inclusive society.

Services

Emergency Shelter and Protection Services

Prima’s Choice Africa provides emergency shelter and protection services for young adults and sex workers who are experiencing violence, homelessness, family rejection, or other forms of crisis. Our shelter offers a safe, supportive, and affirming environment where individuals can access temporary accommodation, basic necessities, protection planning, and referrals to additional services that support their recovery, safety, and long-term wellbeing.

Health, Psychosocial Support, and Referral Services

We believe that good health is fundamental to individual and community wellbeing. We provide psychosocial support, peer counseling, and emotional wellness services that help individuals cope with trauma, discrimination, and other life challenges. We also facilitate referrals to friendly healthcare providers for HIV prevention, testing, treatment, sexual and reproductive health services, mental health care, and other essential medical services. Where appropriate, we connect survivors of human rights violations to trusted legal aid providers to improve access to justice and protection.

Community Empowerment and Capacity Building

We strengthen the resilience and leadership of the youth by investing in capacity building, leadership development, and community organizing. Through trainings, mentorship, workshops, community dialogues, and educational outreach, we increase knowledge on human rights, health, gender-based violence prevention, HIV prevention, advocacy, and leadership. These initiatives empower community members to become informed leaders, advocate for their rights, and actively contribute to the well-being and development of their communities.

Livelihood Support and Economic Empowerment

Economic empowerment is at the heart of our work because sustainable livelihoods enable individuals to live with dignity and independence. Prima’s Choice Africa supports vulnerable community members through livelihood initiatives that improve income generation, food security, and self-reliance. Our programs include community gardening, crop farming, poultry farming, and other small-scale agricultural activities that provide practical skills and sustainable sources of income. These initiatives not only strengthen household resilience but also promote teamwork, environmental sustainability, and community ownership while helping beneficiaries rebuild their lives.

To strengthen the sustainability of our community programs, Prima’s Choice Africa operates a professional catering service for meetings, workshops, conferences, weddings, parties, and other social events. We provide quality catering services to individuals, organizations, institutions, and businesses while creating employment opportunities within the community. Income generated through this social enterprise is reinvested into sustaining our emergency shelter and expanding programs that promote protection, health, and economic empowerment for young persons and other marginalized communities.

Partnerships and Collaboration

We believe lasting change is achieved through collaboration. Prima’s Choice Africa works closely with community-based organizations, civil society organizations, healthcare providers, legal service providers, government institutions where appropriate, and regional and international partners to strengthen protection systems, improve service delivery, and advance the rights, health, and wellbeing of young persons and marginalized communities. Through these partnerships, we are able to increase our impact, share knowledge, and build stronger, more resilient communities.
