Prima’s Choice Africa (PCA) is a youth-led, community-based, non-profit organization working in Uganda and across East Africa to advance the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of sex workers and marginalized communities.
At Prima’s Choice Africa, we understand that the challenges faced by many people in our communities are often connected to their lived experiences.
For many individuals who experience stigma, discrimination or rejection because of who they are, disclosure within their families can lead to loss of support, homelessness and disruption of their education. When young people are pushed out of their homes and schools, they are often left with very limited options for survival.
Some turn to sex work as a means of survival. Others experience homelessness or seek temporary shelter. In many cases, shelter is only available for a limited period and cannot provide a permanent solution or the stability of a home. Over time, these difficult experiences can expose people to further emotional distress, isolation and harmful coping mechanisms, including drug use.
We believe drug use should be understood within the context of people’s lived experiences and the challenges they face.
Vision
Our vision is simple.
When a person experiences rejection, loses access to their home or is forced to discontinue their education, we want them to have somewhere to turn. Where possible, we support community members to continue or return to education. For those who are unable to return to school, we work with them to identify alternative pathways based on their interests, choices and goals. This may include vocational skills development, economic empowerment or participation in our community-led livelihood projects.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build a future with dignity.

Why Prima’s choice was created
- Building a better pathway
Prima’s Choice Africa was created by community members who came together to build better pathways for people facing exclusion, discrimination and social vulnerability. We believe that people should not be defined by their most difficult moment.
Through our work, we support community members to access knowledge, health information, psychosocial support, skills development and economic empowerment opportunities. Our aim is to help people move from simply surviving to building a more positive and dignified life.
- Economic Empowerment & Community Development
We develop community-led initiatives that create opportunities for growth, skills development and greater independence.
Our community projects include farming, poultry keeping and other livelihood initiatives that support economic empowerment while strengthening our shelter and community support programmes.
These initiatives are designed to help community members develop practical skills, pursue their aspirations and build healthier, more sustainable lives.
